About a month ago I went into the doctor to check on my ear infection and while I was there I asked him to look at a mole on my back. I have had 2 moles removed before without any problems, so I wasn't too worried about this time. He removed it two weeks ago telling me that if it came back abnormal then he would have to remove two other moles. Last Thursday they called saying the test had come back with abnormal cells, so not only would they have to remove those moles, but also remove more of the mole he had done a week ago. The nurse didn't sound worried, so I didn't think much of it.
Today I went to get them taken care of. I guess it was a little more serious then I first thought, that they doctor actually termed it as "cancer", it was in the 2nd of 3 stages, the last stage being melanoma. They will know in a week if he was able to remove all of the cells, and if the other two are cause for concern as well. One thing he said was that they probably caught it in time.
I know that this is usually caused by being in the sun too much, but I don't hardly ever expose my back to the sun. I have gone swimming 3 or 4 times this summer, but I always wear sunscreen. I guess I'll just need to be more careful...
